The Weisshorn (4506m) is the 8th highest mountain in the Alps, making it taller than the Matterhorn
It’s a mountain straight out of a picture book: pyramid-shaped and almost completely free-standing. The ascent of the Weisshorn is one of the most beautiful and most difficult climbs in the Alps.
It is a true classic among the four-thousanders. The mountain is almost entirely free-standing and protrudes from the Valais Alp landscape like a pyramid. Many mountaineers are fascinated by the Weisshorn and the formidable challenge it presents. All ascents to any of the three striking peaks are exceptionally difficult. he mountain was first climbed in 1861, via the eastern ridge, and this is still the most commonly taken route today. The 4506 m Weisshorn owes its name to the northeastern side, which is always covered in snow and is clearly visible from the mountain village of Randa.
