Grächen is snow-sure from mid-December through to mid-April. You can ski at an altitude of almost 3,000 metres on +/- 44 km of slopes. Besides skiing, you can go sledding or ice skating, hiking (with or without a guide), cross-country skiing, snow biking and schneeschuhlaufen, but there are also indoor tennis and wall-climbing facilities.
This area always comes in first as the most family friendly ski area in Switzerland in many tests, including www.skigebiete-test.de. Grächen won the “Best Ski Resort mittelgroße Skigebiete Alpen” category in December 2020: www.best-skiresorts.com
The special ski pass includes 1 or more days of skiing in the fashionable Zermatt and is really worth the money! Or head to Saas Fee for a day of winter hiking or skiing. There are plenty of English-speaking ski, snowboard and cross-country ski instructors.
Fancy a Kaffee & Kuchen, Valais raclette or Jausenplatte? Bask in the winter sun on one of the countless patio bars or enjoy an authentic Valais stube or restaurant. Or how about a special cheese fondue dinner during a gondola ride in the evening?
Discover and experience the most beautiful part of Switzerland
Grächen has the most hours of sunshine in the whole of Switzerland (at least 299 days a year)! Summer days of 30 °C or more are quite normal. The evenings are lovely and cool. A range of activities for young and old, from sports & games to guided hikes. But there are also plenty of workshops to choose from! Take Air Zermatt (rescue helicopters), or Lama-guided hikes (www.lama-adventure.ch), and much more…..
From May to October there are over 250 km of hiking trails to enjoy in Grächen and Wallis, spanning from a few hours to a few days and for hikers of all skill levels. The best known hiking trail is the “Europaweg” from Grächen to Zermatt (2 days), which features the longest suspension bridge in the world for pedestrians. There are also plenty of options for short walks with (small) children.
Grächen is an excellent choice for families and children! Experience “Sisu Familienpark” on Hannigalp, “Robi’s Spielplatz”, take part in one of the organised activities or follow the GPS hiking trail with “Ravensburger Spieleland”. It’s a true play paradise in the Alps. And don’t forget the fairy tale gondola… it’s a real must!
